Road trip and anniversary

I went to the Charlotte Comicon on Dec 14th, which is always a good show.  I had decent sales but left early because I pinched a nerve the night before and was in a lot of pain.  Still am.

While at the show I presented my wife Wendy with her present for our 20th anniversary.  She said we needed to skip the show because of my pain, but I kept insisting "I need to go."  That was because I commissioned a painting from the artist John Hairston Jr., and it was amazing.  She was surprised and blown away by it.  Made the pain of that day worth it.

Road trip, and comic book convention

I will be attending the Charlotte Comiccon on Dec 14th, this Sunday.  It is a chance to meet my wife Wendy as well, as we will be going together.  They always have a good show and this one is expanding to be even bigger.

Should be lots of fun, with a few surprises as well (I hope, more on that later).

To anyone who wishes me or Wendy "Happy Anniversary" you will get a free prize.

Issue 12

I have been getting quite a bit done on issue 12 the past week.  As much as I could with Thanksgiving, and relatives coming.  I am getting back into the swing, still trying to find the balance between the next issue and other prints, painting, and Christmas commissions.

But most importantly I am drawing and working.  The obsession is still at work.  The comics and the art still lighten my mind, which gets so dark these days.  Not a lot is going smoothly these days, but when I sit at my drawing table it feels like it is.

Very good news (and something else that makes me happy), my 20th anniversary is coming in the next few weeks.  My wife is always what keeps me going through everything.  Sometimes it is surprising it has been 20 years, but sometimes it is surprising that there was anything before her.

Post NCComiccon post

Overall things went ok.  It was pretty good for sales.  Some things I have been working on didn't do as well as I had hoped, but no big deal, other stuff did.  Not the best show I've done, but in the top five.

But afterwards, I am having a lot of trouble getting motivated to do anything.  And I mean anything.  I still have a long way to go on issue 12, I still have a day job that I suck at, and I still feel like a colossal failure most of the time.  I still have a scanner that is the bane of my existence, and now my computer has been "fixed" but lost photoshop.

Maybe its just a post show let down, paired with some other stuff.  I just could use something to go my way.  Take 2 steps forward, get kicked in the groin.

What I have been doing

I had a few days off of work around the weekend and holiday, which was very nice.  I have been getting some artwork ready for NCComiccon.  Aside from just getting so fed up with Staples, nothing has been happening.  The copy choices in Wilson, NC are extremely limited.  Also finished some one of a kind pieces.

A mental tangent has started, so a few friends and I are starting a geek equivalent of fantasy football, we are starting a FANTASY LAFF A LYMPICS LEAGUE.  Which will be a Facebook creative story telling exercise.

All in all, a great weekend.  Now back to work for a few days until NCComiccon this weekend.

NCComiccon

Been working to get some things ready for NC Comiccon, always one of the biggest shows I do.  It is in Durham, which is not far away from me.  I have several fun ideas for prints, as well as a couple of other unique paintings and crafts.

This show has consistently been good to me, so I want to bring the best of my work.  Unfortunately I have been putting off working on issue #12 because of that (and other shows).  I have the story written, and blocked out, and the first 11 pages penciled.  I have some vacation time coming soon.  I am looking forward to sitting and working on the other projects, but especially issue 12.
