The holiday post.

This is my obligitory Merry Christmas blog entry.  My wife's family is coming in to visit, I have one day off, and various places to visit.  Can't make it home this year because it is so far and I only have Christmas day off, so that is a bummer.

On the comics front.  I am very close to finishing issue 9, so I hope to be finished and have it ordered by the end of January (there, I said a deadline.  Now I have to make it).  Been putting a lot of time into directing a children's play, but it has been very rewarding so far.

Here is a link to one of my favorite Christmas songs, if you don't know it then enjoy.

crowd shot

Here is a pic that depicts a lot (but not all) characters from iNTERMEZZO.  How many can you name?  200 geek points to whoever can name the most.

Charlotte Comicon Post show

Finished my last convention of the year, and had a good show.  This show was well done, well attended, and a lot of fun.  Rick Fortenberry's show is getting bigger and better, and that venue was great.  I don't know if they will continue to use that space or not, but I liked it a lot.

I met some people, and saw some people I have on facebook from previous shows. Overall it was just a good day.   A road trip to Charlotte is always a long one, but I had a friend of mine Jeff who set up a dealer table to travel with, and we crashed at my Mom's place who lives an hour away from Charlotte, so it all worked out quite well.

But today means back to work.  Vacation is over.

Charlotte Comicon

Dec 16th is my next convention.  I have attended this show in Charlotte many times.  Rick Fortenberry puts on a great show and has a lot of artists in attendance.  I missed his last show because of work, and it was moved to a new location.  When I see the list of dealers set up at this show, it seems huge, like it has possibly doubled.  It sounds like this change of venue, is the first step of this show really expanding and growing.  It couldn't happen to a better show, I always enjoy going and my main goal is trying to make more money than I spend (a goal which I usually fail).

I will definitely be there, my friend Jeff is set up as a dealer so we will be driving down together.  I have my homeless superhero sketches, lots of copies of iNTERMEZZO 1-8, Dyslexic Cosmic, and my Geek things print which has shown to be pretty popular.

It also falls on the last day of my vacation, which is a good way to finish.  Several days off, hanging with my wife.  Celebrating our 18th anniversary, working on iNTERMEZZO issue 9, and then a comic book convention.  That is a perfect vacation for me.

Vacation!

I have one more day of work on Sunday, then I have my week's vacation.  I am really jonesing for this, I have several ideas that are jockying for position to get done first.  Issue 9 is very close to being done and Huh the Cosmic Polar Bear kicks his story up a notch, that uses artwork created almost 10 years ago.  So that is cool (for me at least) to see the two styles side by side.

Dyslexic Cosmic 2 is underway and the end is close (close enough to distract me from #9).

And a new story is written and I hope to start on art soon, but I want to finish those two first.  And then there is an art print that I want to start, a prose story that has piqued my interest, and a board game (yes a board game).  That's not even all of them.  Throw in the fact that I am directing a children's theatre production of School House Rock Live Too!  and I have a lot of things I would like to spend my time doing.

Disappointing show

So the Raliegh show was a bit of a dud.  The people there were fine, you're average assortment, but there were very few of them there.  Turnout was very disappointing for a Raliegh show.  All of the other dealers around, I was the only artist set up, were talking about how slow the day was too.  It was so slow in the afternoon that the dealers would just yell conversations across the room to each other.

But... I've been to disappointing shows before.  It is after a good streak of satisfying shows this year. I haven't made it to many this year, but they have been good.  I hope to continue the good streak, one more show in Charlotte on Dec 16th and it is almost always a good one.  The Charlotte comicon has even moved to a new location, which is good because they have been very crowded the last few times.

As always "Any day at a comic convention > Any day at work"
