Wow

Roanoke Valley Comicon was huge!  It was busy and lots of people checked out my art and comics.  I got to see some familiar faces, but the best thing was that my wife Wendy went with me so it was a great roadtrip.

Just happy today.  Even not counting the sore throat I have had and how that is going to make work such a long day.  It was a great weekend and I have another comic convention this Saturday in my hometown of Lexington, NC.

Roanoke Valley Comicon

I have been doing these shows for a few years now (comic book conventions in general in general, but the Roanoke Valley Comicon in particular).  I have seen these shows grow and expand, and I have gotten a lot of comics into people's hands.  It has its high points and low points, but it feels good to put these ideas into comic book form instead of just letting them run around in my head.  I hope if you are reading this, then you have given one of my "Sequential art daydreams" a try.  If not please do (you go to indyplanet.com, and search for Intermezzo, Dyslexic Cosmic, or Journey of Brave Ulysses), and I hope to see you at a show where you can pick one up and try it out.

This Saturday at Roanoke for instance.
Oh, and I do have copies of the new issue 10 for sale, but only a few left.

Unhappy Comics

I went with my wife Wendy and a friend yesterday to get comics from someone.  Her son collected comics from the 90s through 2009 when he died.  There were so many of them she was just giving them away to whoever would take some.  We pulled up in our van and loaded everything she had and took them away.  A nice guy I have met on several occasions told me about it, so I called her and said I'd take care of it.

And its not because I thought this was going to be a gold mine, it's not.  That time period has no big collector's appeal, resell on them will be nominal and offset by the time it will take to organize it and sort through the roughly 6,000 books we have that are stacked in no order in huge cardboard moving boxes.  The big reason I called her and took on a van load of comics is the thought that somewhere, there was a person who was being made unhappy by comic books, and that made me sad.

Comics have been a great joy in my life, that joy has translated into me making my own and publishing it just to make those stories.  The thought that someone had these huge boxes full of comics, and they were causing that person to be upset just made feel like I should help.

So Wendy and I sorted through the first 2 small boxes we had last night, and she was organizing and sorting (so she was happy) and I was looking at a huge amount of stuff I haven't read (so I was happy).  It was just a good night.

On the Road

The convention in Winston Salem yesterday was very fun.  Sold a lot of comics which makes me feel fantastic.  Talked with a lot of people, drew a sketch of a family as Superman, Supergirl, and Superboy; they were thrilled and it just makes you feel great to see people that excited to get a piece of artwork.  Their pictures are on the flickr page, so you can check them out there.

So next is Roanoke, VA on the 29th.  Always a good time there.
After that I have a show in my hometown of Lexington (NC), then Charlotte, and Richmond at the end of April.  A lot of places coming up, but Wendy is going to a couple with me.

I also sold quite a few issues of #10, that is a good feeling.

The Longest week of the year

Wendy is back in the country and I pick her up late tonight.  Even though she does this trip every year, I can't get over how long the week feels.  I tried to keep myself busy (as always).

I managed to pencil and letter 4 pages of Intermezzo issue 11.  I worked on some older art on the Huh story from the 90's.  I've included older pages in issue 9 and issue 10 (which is at the printer now) and this has even more.

I am also getting ready for next weekend's show in Winston Salem and the week after in Roanoke.

The rest of the month

First, Wendy is getting home this weekend (Yay!)

Next weekend is Jay and Eddie's Comic Book Show in Winston Salem on the 15th.

Then the 26th is Roanoke Valley Comic Con.

Both of these are shows I have done in the past and always look forward to returning.  I hope to do more shows this year (as well as get more comics done).  I should have issue 10 in hand very soon.

This is what people call my fun week.

My wife Wendy is in Honduras, helping to feed and clothe the hungry and other worthwhile stuff. I am home drawing comic books, and other trivial stuff.  She is gone for a week, and people always joke that I must love this week (my mother-in-law lives with us and she is in Honduras too) they say I must do nothing but draw and have fun.

I hope I get a lot done this week, I tend to get so down about her being gone and worried about her that I am not nearly as productive as I want to be.

It sure will be a long week.  Maybe I can keep drawing this year.

I have started issue 11, it is already well under way and will not take nearly as much time to complete as issue 10 (he types while trying to distract himself and get busy).
